Jimmie F. Shemwell, 77, of Reidland, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

Mr. Shemwell was a retired personnel director from Elf Atochem of Calvert City. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War, a member of First Baptist Church of Paducah and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Sharpe.

Jimmie was a loving and devoted husband and father. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, but his family and friends know that he was passionate about baseball. He was proud to remind his friends that he went \"one for one\" against the great Satchel Paige. Jimmie Shemwell loved his church and particularly his Sunday school class. He was proud of his military service and his country. His personal heroes were the men and women who served in World War II.

He is survived by his wife of fifty seven years, Carolyn McQueen Shemwell, one son, Jay Shemwell of New York, New York, two daughters, Debra Stone and husband Michael of Paducah, and Brooke Barnes and husband Terry of Lowell, Massachusetts, four grandchildren, Erik Barnes, Sam White, Clint Fryberger, Ashley Carr Reding and husband Aaron, and three great grandchildren, Kathryn Reding, Andrew Reding and Adam Reding.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jane Shemwell White and his parents, Homer Acton Shemwell and Cyrena Wilkerson Shemwell.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 at Hughes Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Todd Brady officiating. Burial will follow at Rosebower Cemetery in Reidland. Pallbearers will be William (Bill) Schroeder, Thomas Earl Nuckolls, Charles (Chili) Hawkins, Dale Perry, Keith White and Rick Carr. Honorary pallbearers will be the Lloyd Nelson Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, J. Richard Walker, Charlie Loyd, Bobby Ray Noles and Jack Sturm.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. til 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
